Beyond the Algorithm: Navigating the Future of Artificial Intelligence - 49th Annual UNIS-UN International Student Conference

Looking Back at UNIS 2025: Beyond the Algorithm

Twelve of our students and two teachers recently returned from an unforgettable experience at the UNIS 2025 conference, held in the UN General Assembly Hall in New York.

This year’s theme, Beyond the Algorithm: Navigating the Future of Artificial Intelligence, explored the transformative potential and ethical challenges of AI. Through insightful discussions and debates, participants examined AI’s impact on education, cybersecurity, employment, conflict, the arts, health, misinformation, environmental sustainability, sports, and more.

Our students actively contributed to the discussions, with one student standing out among 700 participants by being selected for the main student debate. The conference featured thought-provoking insights from speakers such as Melissa Fleming (UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications), Reshma Saujani (founder of Girls Who Code), and Greg Harper (futurist and founder of Harpervision).

Beyond the conference, the group made the most of their time in New York—exploring different neighbourhoods and museums—despite an unexpected four-day delay.

An intense yet inspiring experience that will leave a lasting impact!
